Re: Electric Anchor

Not meaning to hijack Sully's thread. I too want to put one on the back of the pontoon boat. My concern is pulling away with the anchor down. Is there any way to interface with the ignition so that the motor won't start if the anchor is out? Does it have a switch that can tie into the lanyard switch?

One cheap way to do it, make yourself a Red Streamer about 3' long with the words CHECK ANCHOR and clip it to your starter key.

Re: Electric Anchor

Jeep Man, I highly recommend putting the anchor on the front of the boat. This is not a professional speaking but from personal experience, an anchor from the front is all that is necessary. (I am speaking from a swim/relaxation stand point vs. fishing stand point) Point the boat into the wind, drop the anchor, back up or float backwards at least 3 times the depth of the water, lock in the anchor and you are set for the day. Most people do not anchor properly causing the anchor to drag across the bottom or pop up from the waves. Allowing more rope to release before locking in will insure an entire day of relaxation. This is a good rule for a fresh water small lake. Ocean and VERY large lakes with heavy traffic should allow more than 3 times the extra rope before locking in. I hope this helps. I like the front(anchor) for many reasons but most of the time your swim ladder is in the back and swimmers tend to hang out off the back with ropes to tie to boat. This way no one gets wrapped up on the anchor line. :) I use a different boat to fish from and utilize a trolling motor so some one else would need to speak about anchors from a fishing standpoint. :)

Re: Electric Anchor

we have a Trec on our pontoon and after one season the switch gave out, not a huge deal but after one season. So the second season started and after a day/night of rain went to turn motor and no battery....WTF no one has used the boat so as i hooked up second battery source the winch was running.... again ( i think) the switch. I said hell with it and disconnected it from the battery source, will investigate coming spring.

Not a bad idea when when you have to pull up a 50-60 ft of nylon holding a 30lb anchor..... wife would complain about her hands getting sore
