Just replaced my old carb with a reman from Flyingfish. Y41 4bbl Holley
Model 4160 w/Electric Choke. Huge difference in how it starts and idles. Can't wait to get it out on the water. I do have a question though. On the old carb the electric choke had + and - at the terminals. New one does not. I think I got it right as it idles up nice until it gets warm. How would I tell if I've got it connected correctly?

Re: Electric choke terminals

Howdy,

The new one is grounded through the "case".Don't count on having a "good" ground through the "case" although it will work for a while.....so connect the ground......

Just connect the "PLUS" directly to the only tab that's there. The negative lead should go to one of the screws on the heating element cap or carb body.

If you look at my 4160 below, you could connect the "ground" wire to one of those Phillips-Head screws just above & behind the auto-choke element housing. Use marine type crimp tabs and "star" washers when you do it.

Now, having said that, if you only boat in "warm" weather, you might be able to adjust your auto-choke to a fairly "lean" setting.
(I disconnected mine altogether!!)

That way it won't keep the choke plate closed for very long at all..... You'll have to experiment a little to get it right. After the heating element warms up completely, the choke plate should be fully open (and completely out of the picture!)

Cheers,

Rick
