Electric Choke

This is a good one. Boat stalled on me last night. Would not re-start. Today I've found that if I remove the wire to the electric choke, the motor will start. As soon as I replace the wire to the choke, it will die. I've checked the solinoid to the elec. choke, with the engine off, and the switch on, and the solinoid works(the plunger goes up and down). I'm starting to guess the problem is in the control handles. But, I have no idea on what to look for. Can anyone help. It's a 1973 thunderbolt 500 50 H.P. When the choke wire is dis-connected from the solinoid, I hit the choke button on the control panel, and the engine trys to die. Almost as if the choke was engaging. But like I said the choke wire is dis-connected. I've been tinkering with this engine alday. Every wire I removed, I labled. If you think, that I have a wire mixed up, tell me. I'm almost positive that they are all right. Well thanks for the help Jeremy

Re: Electric Choke

I believe the choke solinoid is grounding out. I've checked the wiring again, and it is right. There is only one wire to the choke, and it will engage the choke(with the button pushed on the control panel). It just will not allow the motor to start. As soon as I remove the wire from the choke, it will start right up. Well, I guess it's the solinoid. It could be the control panel grounding. I guess you can send me the diagram, and i'll get a fluke and check everything. Thanks Jeremy
