Electric choke

I have a Holley 4bbl on a 5.8ltr 351 Ford, Volvo Penta. I just noticed the terminal on the choke gets hot. Too hot to keep your finger on it for a few seconds. I know the choke works by heating the coil inside but how hot is hot. The choke goes through its full open close cycle perfectly. No hang ups or abnormalities. I am concerned since this heat is so close to gasoline.



The lug to the right of the positive terminal gets very hot.

Excess heat at the terminal indicates high resistance. Disconnect and clean the terminal.

It is not the terminals that get hot. I have cleaned the +, - terminals. It is the round brass or copper lug next to the + terminal in the image. I think it is part of the coil that expands and contracts to activate the choke. I am just not sure how hot it should get.

Getting hot is what it's supposed to do. That lug has a coil inside that expands as it gets hot, and that is what opens the choke.

Have you ever heard of the lug being too hot? Once the engine is warmed up the lug is so hot I can not keep my finger on it. The choke is fully open at this point.

Yeah, that's normal. They get hot, I learned not to put my fingers on it when it has the choke open.

Ok. I got it. Don't touch it it is hot. Normal function. All is good.
That is the answer I was looking to get.
