Electric Engine hatch lift making noise

I have a 2004 Four Winns 210 Horizon. My engine hatch lift has one motor/lift that makes a grinding noise. I can spray wd-40 on the strut and the noise stops, but will come back in a couple of days. Found a grease fitting but the strut seems to have an endless capacity. Will adding grease help with this noise or is something else wrong? Thank you for any help.

I had the same problem on my Four Winns 278. Although I greased the fitting and sprayed WD40 it got gradually worse - and then after a number of months the noise magically stopped and has not returned. I think the mechanic who serviced the engine may have applied some grease - perhaps he had a grease gun with better pressure. Keep up the lubrication, I think it takes time to work its way up the screw thread in the lift arm.
