Electric Grill for Boat?

Hey Guys:

We want to be able to grill some food on the boat, but the Marina has a no flame policy at the slips. Also, I am having a hard time finding a place to mount a gas grill over the water.

Anyone have experience with electric grills? I would like to hear some pro's & con's. Clearly, a major con would be the requirement for me to run the generator out on the Lake... I did pick up a cheap portable propane grill at West Marine for under $100 (sale + coupons), but after reading threads on here, it is clear that it is not advised to use it on the deck or on the swim platform as I had proposed...

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

When i was a kid, my grandfather had a grill mounted hanging over the water on the back of his houseboat. He had a guy at the marina fab it for him. That being said, I am not at all a fan of having any open flame near or on a boat. Even with all that water, they do catch fire.

As for electric, this one looks nice, and you can't beat a Holland

I have what one might consider a minature CharBroil electric grill but unfortanately they are no longer made. It is built just like a regular gas grill but is much smaller. Works great for just my wife and I. Two big "T-bones" fit on it. Has lava rock in it just like the big ones. Since we live in the tundra, I made a small table that mounts on a post just outside the service door for my garage. In the winter I use the electric as the outlet is right next to the door. No need to fire up the huge bugger I have on the deck. Besides, the cover is stiff as a board as its about Zero outside right now. There are lots of electric grills out there now but none of them are as nice as this little charbroil. None of them use lava rock either.

electric grill at walmart $30.
just like a small portable gas grill but with an electric element and a heat dial control.
just picked one up about a month ago.
they also have a standing george foreman grill "like a regular grill" but electric for $60.

then on the other hand you could take a small portable gas grill and scrap the all the gas stuff.
then pick up one of those electric charcoal starting units and fab in.
probably could use a dimmer control to regulate the heat.
walmart would be far easyer however.

Make sure you don't drop any hot steak in your bilge lest it explode! Did you ever get to the source of your bilge problem?

this looks like it would work with little modifying. http://www.electricgrilldepot.com/i...rill-With-Rotisserie_path_11180_item_502.html

using this type mount, mount grill to a piece of plywood, the mount grill to seat bracket, you can order the pieces separately, with a longer pole. the you just drill the center hole in the swim platform and mount base plate. when not in use, you can store below. and free up the swim platform.

here is the longer post. i used this system for my helm seat on my pontoon boat, and my center console. extremely stable. you can see the seat here.

With the little Honda (1000i) we're limited to about 900 watts.

The 6000 btu A/C works fine, but we have to use an electric heater with a 750 watt setting. The little Honda will also power a small microwave but we don't use the microwave aboard anymore.

There's nothing like 4 minute coffee in the morning thanks to the little Honda.

Actually, cleanup is one wipe of the teflon surfaces with a paper towel. I used to have a full sized Magma grill...it was impossible to clean, not to mention finding a place to store it when not in use.
