Iv'e got an old Johnson (cold blooded)that hates to be started, and I was reading through my clemens manual and it mentioned something about a primer, electrically activated, and I was wondering, is my motor missing this item, or is this used on something different(smaller motors) Feel free to chime in, guys. Thanks. PDS

Your motor has a choke although a primer could replace it. Tell us more about your motor - plug type, fuel, oil etc.

Good luck!

Dhadley, thanks for your reply. Engine is a mismatch(Plate says 85 hp, heads say 115 hp) the right plugs were hit and closed by the pistons. I am now running center-fire plugs(no electroids) and once I get it running it runs good. It's a mishmash of stuff(I get lost trying to figure it out) I got good spark, but wish the motor would start like my truck in the morning.

Dhadley, what's the difference between a normal choke and a primer? Choke is either manual or electric and a primer shoots extra gas into the carb.,kinda like a acelerator pump on the older car carbs.
