Hi All,

Have a 2oohp Merc carbie model. Jumped into boat yesterday, hit the key and as it wound over got a severe electric shock thru the controls. Also come thru foot throttle and is very annoying. Cant replicate it out of the water on the ears, so gathering its earthed on the trailer. Havent done anything unusual, I am desperate for where to look. Thanks

Re: Electric Shock treatment

You must have a short in the harness or controls. Unplug the harness and start doing continuity test on the pins. Do you have a wiring diagram for the harness?

Re: Electric Shock treatment

Somehow the kill circuit is getting connected to the frame of the control set, and also the ground is off on the controls. Could be caused by a combination of bad ground and a little moisture on the switch.

hope it helps

Hi All,

Once again a big thank you. After reading your advice, remembered a few outings ago we copped a wave over the frond in a southerley. Pulled all the controls and harnesses out yesterday and blew them dry, and gave them a good WD40. Put her in the water to day and presto no shock. Thanks again for all your help, would have wasted hours with out your help.

Check the grounding on your controls. It should have tried to kill the mota, not you.

hope it helps

Hi All,

Once again thanks for all your help !!!!! Just an FYI for those who might encounter this little drama, turned out to be the ignition switch. Copped a wave ova the side last time out, and it gave me a belt evry time i started her. Gave it a good dose of inox and now we are friends again. Thank you once again for all your help, this forum rocks !!!!!
