ok this is sort of a strange post but here it goes ...
i have a 1992 evinrude 70hp the engine runs great dosent' miss a beat , and it seems to give small electrical shocks from the skeg and lower unit , and the only reason i have felt this was because we were swimming and i went to use the motor to climb back into the boat , they are like constant voltage type of feel, was just wondering if anyone would have ever encountered this ?
we run it in fresh water (just trying to give as much info)
thanks for any input in advance

Re: electric shocks???

Real shocking experience huh? Sorry....couldn't resist...

If it's constant, it could mean a possible short somewhere around the engine block alowing 12V's to drain thru the engines body or some accessory is ground out against the engine. Apparently it's on the hot side of the ignition so I'd look for a bad feeder wire maybe?

You may be able to narrow it down some. Disconnect the main positive battery cable from the battery. If you still feel the shock, then pull something else from the battery if you have feeder wires hooked like that, until the shock stops.

ok will give that a try , also felt the small shocks through the control box today , they are so small you can't feel them through your finger tips but rather if you rest your wrist or knee against it , will check all powers like you suggested and grounds aswell

Were any motors (live well, bilge pump, etc) running at the time? Could be an arcing commutator coupled with a bad ground.

nope no motors of any kind boat was just sitting in the water , i was thinking some sort of voltage leak from the tilt and trim???? will try and use the volt meter tonight to see if i can isolate it , i figure it must be voltage and im a better ground the what shuld be grounding it , makes sense ?????? i think
