Picked up this 18hp, to upgrade from 15hp. But its a bear to pull start.
it has a geared flywheel, so its ready for conversion. I found a starter with bracket already, it should be here this week.
questions:
Is this 1961? i think it is based on this chart i saw
main question: I heard this you tube video describing a wiring diagram for installing an electric start that takes into account the kill switch and relay. it has side by side of regular kill switch and electric wired version of same.

I'd love to get a print out, if somebody can post it?
Also, is there some basics i should know before hand? I'm gonna do all the wiring myself. and plan on running the starter from my trolling battery (it's a big benz diesel battery)

Look at the sheave on the recoil.----It is timed to make use of the elliptical shape to reduce starting effort.----There are some wee arrows that need to be lined up when rope is fully recoiled !

recerone: i'll try and do just this, but i'm not sure i know exactly what you mean.
I just bought the motor, and haven't fired it yet, as it sat for 3 years, and i wanna clean out the carb before i fire it.
I pulled the rope to test, and it has a lot of compression, that's what i mean about it being hard to pull. it's just like that evinrude 15hp, i was working but even harder, and eveinrude, is kinda hard to pull.
I am planning on converting it to electric start bc i found starter, wiring harness, and bracket for $40+sh, and for that price, i'll save my shoulder :)

Also, i was able to find that diagram i wanted.
