I have a 1974 15hp elecric start Evinrude that I regularly remove from my boat. I am looking for some kind of plug and socket for the 2 wires that connect the motor to the battery. I am currently using a plug and socket that are not designed for marine use so corrode badly. I have seen one marine plug for sale but I don't know whether it will take starter current or not. Does anybody know how much current the starter draws?

Why not just go direct to the marine type battery with the original battery leads?

I used to do so, but I've got the battery conviniently inside a plasic box with a cut off switch and light connection wired in. It's a lot easier to be able to unplug the motor in one easy move without opening the box or undoing any nuts.

Something like this might make it easier, but I know it's not exactly what you're after.

web page

Thanks for the idea - you're right though, it doesn't really solve the problem.
Is there anybody out there who knows the amperage of a starter?
