Re: Electrical Issue with 4.3L Fuel Pump?

I have a 4.3 gxi. mine has a circuit braker in the back of the motor about were the distributer is. It is hard to see you just have to feel for it. when the braker trips it shuts down the fuel pump and the hydrolics for the drive. hope this helps

That is how my fuel pump acted when it went bad on my 96 4.3 merc.. Would work intermittent - it will just get worse, time to replace.

Thanks for the reply.

I just wanted to update my story in case someone else with a similar problem stumbles across this thread. Like JJJ, it was my fuel pump. It didn't just die or get stuck (needing a tap to dislodge) it just worked sometimes and not others... Awesome :) When I jumpered the oil pressure switch, it always worked. Maybe coincidence or perhaps slightly different voltage? Anyway, I figured it out when I took the boat out on a small inland lake nearby. When the engine cut out after 5-10 min of cruising I could walk back, unplug and plug back in the fuel pump, and restart no problem. Replaced the pump and had a great weekend on the water putting about with the parents and skiing and tubing with younger brothers. Put about a half tank of gas through it without incident. I'm calling it fixed for now. Thanks everyone for your help.

You might have superior subject knowledge, but that's no excuse for being rude. His comment was relevant despite our different engines. Turns out a breaker near the distributor cap is a pretty common feature, but I'm sure you knew that...

Was not meant to be rude. Was for you to realize that he had a completely different set up that what you had so that you didn't look all over for something that wasn't there.

My apologies; etiquette policing should not be my concern. I appreciate your help here.

The ellipsis (...) gets used a lot and means different things to different people. When I make that pause in my speech, I generally mean "idiot," but that's my hang-up not yours ;)

I see...LOL...I use this all the time, even when I am chatting with my friends on IM.

If you go look at my posts to others, you will see I use it all the time.
