Hi all, I was on my boat on sat. while trolling my boat unexpectedley shut off, and blew the bilge/ctsy 20 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse and tried to crank the boat up only to blow it again, and once more...i got towed off the lake and not cant find where the faulty wire may be, or does anyone think t could be a bad ignition?

I have a 1999 larson 176 sei with a 3.0 volva penta. thanks for all the help.

Re: electrical problem

once you reset the breaker did it stay on for any period of time before you tried to crank??

If so then you do not have a short in the circuit...but, it she blows by cranking the motor then I would think your starter circuit has an issue..

I would take out the spark plugs and cranke her over a few times... see if she turns smooth if it blows the breaker then check the amps at the starter using an amp meter (Clamp style) around the red wire and see what she draws for amps..

then put plugs back in and try again and see what the diff is in amps draw...

you may need a starter or your starter solenoid might be pitted drawing more amps when it closes to make the circuit...obviously the soleniod is cheaper than the starter....
