electrical problem

I have a bit of a problem,<br /><br />I have a 1978 invader i/o omc 800. Was out on the lake yesterday and my instrament panel lost power.<br />I turned off my enguine to pick up a skier, and i lost power to all my switches and radio and it would not start...after a few seconds by luck power came back...but 30 minutes later I could hear my motor in my radio so i turned off the key again and once again had no power at all up front...no radio, blower or key switch...after tooling around for 3 hours and replacing a battery I still had to get towed in! There is power to the motor because I can jump the silinoids to work my trim and tilt....any help would be greatly appreciated

corrosion at the main harness plug, bad battery cables,rusty batt. cable ends,main circuit breaker bad,

Agree with Bt...you would not be at a bad investment of time to go COMPLETELY thru your electrical system cleaning terminals and any contact places. I've got a 1976 Bayliner that has plagued me with intermittent operation of all the switches and wiring components. Mine came from salt water and is really a pain. I just replaced the temp gauge this weekend.

more than 1 person has told me there is a main circuit breaker on the engine harness, I have looked but can't find one on mine any clues, My main harness that connects to my engine is real clean?<br />I will replace battery cables and terminals and up date ...thanks

There should be a fuse link at the starter were your battery cable hooks up.Another breaker should be around the slave silnoid.

is the slave silnode the same one i can jump to make the engine turn over?

well, after tearing apart my entire electrical<br />harness and tracing every wire, and re-splicing and re-connecting every wire, I figured out the problem.......After completly rewiring the back end I moved up to the dash, replacing every plug and in-line fuse, What was wrong in my case was the main electrical plug that comes into my dash, it reads 12v at 2 points so I thought it was good but it was actually only supplying power to the bildge, and blower, the rest of the plug was corroded, replaced it and I'm as good as new...<br /><br />thanks for all the posts<br /><br />jeremy
