Everyone raise your hands if you like playing with intermittant electrical problems!
Already spent too much money replacing parts, hoping someone has a better solution. I have a 1980 25
hp Evinrude. It used to startup just fine with the ignition switch but no more. When I turn the key nothing happens, no click noise, no starter jump, nothing. However I can rope it and it pull starts just fine. So I replaced the ignition switch, no help, then a friend (and expert auto mechanic) told me how to test the solenoid - Connect the two terminal, if it clicks its your starter, otherwise replace the solenoid. No click so I replaced the solenoid - didn't fix the problem.
Tired of wrenching on it I decided to go lake fishing anyhow and pull start it (can't put it in the river without good reliable ignition). Near the end of the day I was tired of removing the cover, pull starting and replacing the cover so for grins I turned the key and viola - it turned over and started. Tried several more times over the next two hours and it fired up right away every time.
Bring the boat home, let it sit for two weeks and guess what - it doesn't start! So what's the best fix? 12 gauge or or pull the plug next time I'm on the water with it?
