is there a website that shows what each of the different electrical parts do on an outboard? Such as rectifier, stators and such?

Also, what voltage should a 28hp motor put out at the terminals?

Re: Electrical systems?

no much, all it is designed to do is maintain the starting battery. not to charge for a trolling motor. although we use to use the same battery for both. 28 is not hard to pull start, if you kill the battery with a trolling motor. then charge as soon as you get home. charging immediately increases the life of the battery.

Re: Electrical systems?

Do you mean what voltage should be at the battery when it's running? Usually in the 13v range but what I look for it just a higher voltage than the battery at static (non running) which is usually around 12.6v

Re: Electrical systems?

I should have stated, but yes when running, I get a reading of 12.2, which I suspect is the voltage of the battery. Reason I ask is the battery died on the lake the other day. I pull started it but I didn't have to crank on it unusually hard before it died.

12.2v is low. If it's 12.2v running and not running, you've answered your own question! It should be more...

Re: Electrical systems?

Will low voltage cause problems at high RPM? What kind of issues would that create?
