Have a '92 40hp Johnson tracker w/ power tilt/trim.
Is there a fuse somewhere that controls this and
some of the gauges on console?. Nothing happens
when I try to start, push trim up and down buttons
and gas gauge on console does not work now??????
Any suggestions as to where to look will be appreciated!

Re: electrical?

there is a fuse under the cowl on the solenoid side of the motor. it is in a red rubber casing.

Re: electrical?

thank you so much for your reply. What would
make this blow? Did I hold the trim button on
"down" too long? and is it a large red tube?
bigger than a roll of quarters?

Re: electrical?

look at incoming positive line, it is on a small red wire, attached to the same post. the red plug you are speaking of is just the wiring harness connection.

Re: electrical?

as TD said the big red plug is your wire harness plug, your fuse should be in a single red wire line and usually has a wire clip holding it to the block, it should be right near to the big red plug.

sometimes they just blow..other times it is because you have a short somewhere.

Re: electrical?

Thanks everyone, found it and it was blown. Now when i put a new fuse
in and try to power raise the motor it makes a small, short noise and blows the fuse.
Is there a way to manually raise this motor? could it be "stuck" down or
locked down someway/somehow?

Re: electrical?

you have a short in your T&T somewhere,,,check all of your wiring..if wiring is ok it could be the tilt motor. you should be able to remove your fill screw on the tilt and trim and then lift your motor, it will fall rapidly though so you need to lock it in the up position before letting it go.

Re: electrical?

im with sparkieboat on this one. you have a short. and not all shorts are wires that are grounded out. a loss of power down the wire can also blow the fuse. for example if the wire is corroded or rubbed some where ive also had that blow fuses. start the hunt chasing wires sucks.

Re: electrical?

thanks again, you guys are great!. put in a new fuse, lifted motor
with 1 arm, had a screwdriver, putting upward pressure, on another
area. then pushed up button and UP IT WENT!! went to lake, trimmed
down fine and ran motor throughout lake. got back to landing and
nothing when i went "up" No motor either??? Is this a wire chase?

Re: electrical?

either wire or tilt motor...check the wires going to the trim motor, sometimes they can get pinched.

Re: electrical?

You might want to remove the relays and spray some electrical contact cleaner in there real good, get all the crud out of there and spray down the relay terminals.
