Electrolyses (sp?)

Have purchaced a used 2005 Nissan 18hp, manual start, and discovered a small (3/8") patch of corrosion on the upper portion of the lower unit. It apears to be mostly on the surface.

What would be the best procedure to repair the area in question?

This is a great forum, however I have been unable to locate anything on this problem.

Sand it and paint it.

Get some factory matching aerosol paint and either zinc chromate or zinc phosphate primer.I have had better luck with phosphate.Sand the spot until it is shiney and smoothe.Wipe with acetone or thinners and prime and paint and you are good to go.Charlie
