hi all
just did a complete rebuild on my 3.7 but now it wont start ..
it has a electronic ignition installed by previous owner but upon closer inspection of the distrubitor i noticed the button notch doesnt go down far enough to maye into the notch on the top of the distributor shaft..
so im thinking its the wrong button for the application ..
anybody know what the proper button would be to fit this application?
been searching on line but can only find complete ignition system but think i only need the button..
i also have a new set of points i could install if need be...
thoughts ? suggestions?.
thank you in advance

The tune up kit minus the cap is #18-5250, comes with condenser, rotor and points;
the rotor only is Sierra #18-5418 which crosses over to:

thanks Eric
is the rotor button for the electronic ignition and the rotor button for the points different .
the one I have is about 1/8-1/4 " to long in the armature hole not allowing the tab to go into the notch.
think the button itself is the right height overall but hole on the center seems to be to deep to engage in the notch..
man I hate trying to correct other people's work..
half thought on sanding the button now far enough to get it to engage in shaft but not sure if that would make it to short to make contact in the cap ..
thanks

If you have a Pertronix kit, the points and condenser get removed only and the cap and rotor is the same.

yes it's all removed and there is a black pickup I believe on the bottom where the points would have been running on the armature but the rotor button only goes down to the top of it and is stopping the button from going down any farther.
that's why I wonder if there is a different button the goes with the conversion kit.
I didn't change it so that's why I'm wondering if it's the wrong button for the distributor.
thanks

The link I posted opens the Pertronix kit for our 3.7 distributor. It doesn't come with a different rotor button. Is the black pick up box your mentioning in the parts photo from the link?

The 2nd link I had posted, was the installation instructions that come with the Pertronix kit. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0247/6913/4628/files/1146A.pdf

There are several electronic conversions out there. We don't know which one you have.

it's a pertronic ignitor D57-22 ignition module
I swapped the button out of the second (running ) motor and seems to fit alot better and does not spin on armature like the other one did but still won't start ..
going to swap out coil from other motor and try that and I also have a spare petronix ignitor to try ..
running out of ideas !!!.
does anyone have a picture of the exact location of the rotor button when at top dead center pretty sure i have it right but service manual is pretty vague in the description of placement just says to front of engine .
I'm attaching a pic of the ignition module

FWIW....I have had 100% of the pertronix kits I ever bought fail.

I have never been stranded by a set of points.

however prior to ripping anything out, simply ground and unground the coil repeatedly and every time you unground, the coil should fire.

just swapped the coil and still nothing .
think I might swap out the ignitor and see if that does anything.
not a huge job so might as well nothing else is working LOL

ok everyone I now have engine running somewhat so now I have fire and it will start briefly but keeps running out of fuel now ..
if I pump the shifter to add fuel to the carb it will start for a bit till it runs out of fuel and then quits ..
just sprayed the carb with seafoam and removed the fuel line and poured additional seafoam in the line but so far no better..
any ideas think it needs a carb overhaul ?
think seafoam sitting in the carb for a while will help.?
this is a freshly rebuit motor that was running last summer until it hydro locked and bent a push rod so that's why it was rebuilt..
any got any tricks up their sleeve that might resolve this without tearing it all apart..
thanks again

Did you check the inline gas filter in the carb inlet? While the fuel line is off I'd get the line spray into a bucket and crank over the engine and see if gas flows out of the line.
