I’m working on OMC 350 King Cobra (574BPRGDP) and have a question about electronic ignition and shift assist.
In a nut shell I would like to add electronic ignition to replace the points in the distributor (distributor #985560 - Prestolite).
I seem to remember some warning about adding an electronic ignition and that it had something to do with the shift assist.
Does anyone have any information about this?
Thanks

You can buy a new shift assist module that works with electronic ignition from CDI. You will have to contact them to make sure.

There is also a diode fix you can rig up to make your existing module work.

personally, I would just stick with points

They sell an ESA that works with both points and the conversion electronic kits like Petronix. I replaced my old ESA when it stopped working about 6 years back with that one. Call them & ask but I’m my case I just continued using points.

I switched to pertronix and the esa fix I found on this site on my 1989 3lt.it has run flawless for 800 plus hrs ( did keep the point for a backup just in case but 🤞 haven't needed them)
