I'm converting my 83 3.0 to electronic ignition and have a question regarding the coil, and resistance.
I purchased the Sierra kit. It states in the instructions, that a four cyl requires a minimum of 3.0 ohms of resistance.
The coil on my boat now, says "External resistor required" but I see no ballast resistor anywhere in the wiring. I know sometimes, it's done with a resistance wire, but how do I know?
The instructions show a wiring diagram for wiring the ignitor system without a ballast resistor, as well as a diagram with a resistor. Should I just use the "without ballast resistor" diagram? Should I swap out the coil for one that has an internal resistor?
It looks to me like the Sierra ignitor is made by Pertronix, (same logo in instructions) and I found a tech service number on the web. I guess I could call them tomorrow, and see what they have to say, but it's not business hours ...and y'all are here now, so to speak.
I just don't want to wire it wrong, and burn it up.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
