I think that diagram is only for a pertronix conversion. <br /><br />If you are converting to HEI, it's different. I did a lot of research on this in the past few days, I'm doing the same thing...<br /><br />With points, the shift interrupt is grounded on one end and when the switches are closed it passes the ground along to the points, causing a misfire. <br /><br />With HEI, the shift interrupt needs to send +12V to the timing shunt lead on the HEI distributor. What this does is set the electronic advance back to 'base mode' and changes the timing causing a slight misfire and/or rpm reduction. To do this, all you really need to do is disconnect the grounded wire from the shift assist switches, and instead attach it to a +12V source, preferrably a switched ignition source. I have the diagram at home, I can post it if you need to see it. <br /><br />Don't take this for gospel, I'm still looking into it myself, but as far as I know right now that's all you'll need to do.
