Has any body done a points to electronic conversion on a 2.5 L OMC ? I would like to do this but am worried about how to get the ESM to work.

first, if you want to swap, get a delco voyager distributor and swap the whole thing. if you buy a kit, there will be instructions.

I personally would never use a pertronix unit again and just stick with points.

Agreed I don't get why people can't maintain points. Simple, no electronic mystery boxes to fail and then be NLA. Auto shop 101 if you grew up in the 60s and 70s. Some old tech is just plain better. I'll take a points Prestolite distributor and a good Quadrajet over electronic ignition and EFI anyday, why because, after about 10-15 years what happens to those proprietary electronic parts from the OEMs (Merc & Volvo)...oh yes....they start becoming NLA...like the electronic ignition modules used by Volvo, some of the EFI vapor cannisters, and ECMs...a simple points distributor you can get parts for in the aftermarket and a simple carb you can rebuild over and over will keep you going instead of searching for parts on ebay...
