Re: electronic starter

I've never heard of one.

I would bet he was referring to one of the smaller gear reduction starters, not electronic. But they fail too.

Re: electronic starter

Unless your engine is started by hand crank, or rope start, it already has an electric starter that they haven't devised a practical improved replacement for yet... ;)

He asked about Electronic, not Electric.

Yep. That's why I said they haven't found an "improvement" for his electric starter yet. ;)

I know some auto manufacturers were working on starter-less engines, which finds the cylinder closest to compression TDC, squirts in fuel, and lights it off, but I'm guessing for practical use it would have it's flaws, and would be a LONG way off from going into boats if it even works out.

That would be my bet too. They are also referred to as "permanent magnetic starters."

He's probably talking about the electronic starting "system" on newer cars..... also associated with keyless starting systems. You push a button and the system takes care of cranking control until the engine starts.

Automatic start generators have them too.

Just something else to fail and have to work on for a boat I would think.

KISS......

Yea I was thinking electronic ignition also. People use the wrong terms all the time.
