Seems when I turn off my main motor and run my kicker, the Gps unit I have shuts off. I have to power it back up. Both my GPS and fishfinder are on the same fuse. Fishfinder remains on. Both seem to be grounded. Is this a GPS unit problem or is there a better way to hook up the GPS so it does not need to be turned back on when I switch my ignition off.

Re: Electronics Issue

When the GPS was installed by the previous owner, he connected it to a switched circuit (only powered hot when the ignition is on). Take a test light or a multimeter and find a circuit that is always hot on your fuse panel and move the positive lead for the GPS to that circuit. The only catch is you have to remember to turn your GPS off at the end of the day or you will drain your battery. No problem for me as I remove my GPS from the boat at the end of the day. If you have a separate fish finder and GPS unit, they should be on their own fuses, not sharing one.

If it is on the same switched circuit, the fish finder should shut off when the ignition is off. I would like to see a picture of this fuse panel circuit.
