Elgin 5 lower unit lubrication

I have a 1951-52 Elgin two cylinder 5 horse I picked up for $10.00. It has neutral and forward. Finally got around to getting her running after two years and it's a really nice running motor. Question is does it use gear grease (Lubriplate) or gear oil? thanks
