Elgin 7.5 hp outboard

My grandfather recently gave me an old elgin 7.5 outboard that he bought years ago used. It was just sitting in his shop so i thought i'd take it. All I can find on it is the serial #, which is 791 1001. The cover is white with elgin in yellow script writing. Does anyone know what year this motor is? Thanks<br /><br />Brent

Sorry Brent...<br /><br />My book shows all Elgin's model numbers beginning with the numeral FIVE (5). For example:<br /><br />Their 1957 7.5 hp engines are model #571.58781 and model #571.59721<br /><br />The 1958 7.5 hp engines are model #5973 & #5978.<br /><br />Check again to see if you can find a model number similar to these.<br /><br />Walt
