Well I have a 16' 1976 Charger Deckboat with a 1981, 115 hp Evinrude. Mounted on the Evinrude is a Minnkota trolling motor, EM 48. The trolling motor is 24 V and is blowing the fuse after about 1 minute of use.

First trip out we used the trolling motor with no problems. Second and Third trip out the fuse blew. The fuse is rated at 20 amps. This is what was installed prior to me buying the boat.

The fuse that blows is one of two located on the bow-mounted control panel. This panel controls the tilt/trim for the Evirude, the charging of the batteries, selection of 12V or 24V, and power to the trolling motor.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Re: EM 48 blowing fuse

svdk,

I running a couple all-terrain Minn Kota 12 volts and the manual recommended a 50 amp circuit breaker for them. Sound like to me the fuse is getting to hot from the current being pulled. I would install at least a 40 to 50 amp circuit breaker to correct that. They cost around 8 dollars at boaters world or bass pro.

Rob

What Rob says!! And the 20A circuit you are feeding the motor with probably has too small a wire gauge for the size motor you are running. Better rethink the installation.
