This may be a pretty dumb question, but I don't know the answer to it!

How fast are you supposed to move the throtle lever?

Are you supposed to just "drop the hammer" and wait for the motor to rev up on its own or slowly move the throtle up through the RPM range?

Use it the same way you use the gas pedal in your car. If you need to get the he## out of there, hammer down. If you don't ease it on. There is one thing you do need to know however. When you initially move the throttle, the first thing that happens is that the lower unit is shifted into gear. You want that initial shift to be quick. Sliding it into gear is bad. What you do after that depends on how much of a hurry you are in. Remember, the throttle is not an ON/OFF switch. It is a linear device. The farther forward you push it the faster you go. It is ok to use less than full throttle.

Why are you embarrassed? Boats are not cheap toys... they are expensive... and even more so when they break! So by no means is your question cause for embarrassment.

Personally? I'm usually pretty gentle with the "go stick" but I'm a kid at heart so every once in a while I'll gun it. I just like to play it more on the cautious side most of the time. Oh and I never throttle it way up when its cold. I always wait until the engine has warmed up some.

it really makes no difference. you have to be aware of the water conditions, and learn what your boat will do. if it is rough, you may want to gun it to get the bow up over the inital waves, and then throttle back. if you are using it for water sports, gunning it is a must, then throttle back.

Also, does your boat have a power tilt and trim? Because if it does that is the next thing to do immediately after accelerating. You need to start trimming the motor up to adjust the plane of the boat. Usually within just a few seconds after my "hole shot" I'm on the trim switch and raising the motor.

The only comment is that you need to put it in gear like you mean it. Once in gear, it depends on mood etc.

I'm with you. If I'm not WOT, I'll never get on plane and I'd have no view of what is ahead. Once i'm on plane i can come off of it a bit.

Smart Tabs will get you on plane sooner and allow you to see before you get there (never loose site of what is in front of you).

I have to admit the more I read this forum the more I have to say why did I not ask that question.

Do the Smart Tabs have any bad qualities? For example, do they hurt the top speed or anything like that? Do they really help in rough water? Thanks in advance.

No negitives. You should actually get a few MORE MPH top end. And they do help some in rough water. For me, they made a HUGE difference in keeping the bow down and getting on plane. And the boat is more stable at speed, but the difference isn't as big as the difference is when getting on plane. But, that difference is HUGE.

If you seach here for smart tabs you will not be able to find anyone that installed them that doesn't like them. I did that and that is why I bought them. :D

And they aren't expensive either.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll do some searching (and probably some ordering).
