Re: emergency paddles on a pontoon ??

I have this posted already but I bought a set of gun racks for pickup back wimdows and mounted them inside my playpen fence near the helm. They hold the paddle boat hook and long handle fish net, and these items are handy to reach from the helm or front of the console. I wouldn't know where to stick the bucket, but would certainly have a suggestion for your lawmakers.

I have not tried it or had to try it , but i think a paddle would be good with a shrit, towel, etc. tied on the end and waved at passing boats to get ther attention
As far as using them to move the boat, You better have a lot of help on board!

I have done it on my 16' pontoon. I sat in the front in the middle in the front doorway, legs over the front and paddled right down the middle... It was slow but it worked... It'd be tough on a bigger boat though...

For all you Canadians, the rule is all powered sail and power boats up to 9 meters/26ft need

"4. One (1) manual
propelling device
OR
One (1) anchor and at least
15 m (49?3?) of cable, rope or
chain in any combination"

Ditch the oars if you like.

A paddle is very useful for smacking the wife or kids upside the head when they don't obey the captain. I would not be without one on my boat. I even carry one inside the van--you never know.

In these parts, you HAVE to have a paddle on board, as well as a bailing bucket. Yes, it is the stupidest thing they can think of, but rules are rules. I have a 3 piece paddle that snaps together like a tent pole. Takes up very little room, and your right, your not going to paddle a pontoon boat with much success.

I would love to see the proper use of a bailing bucket on a pontoon boat.:D:p:rolleyes:

just an outside the box thought, take plastic paddles....or well sealed wood ones and put on top of toons with zip ties to hold them to braces on the inside area. most toons i have seens you can do this from the back. they are there for compliance and should you REALLY decide you need them it will be a bit of work but you COULD use them.
Fill the bailing bucket with bait or beer and be done with it.
