Emergency shut off?

Reading around here I noticed that there is more than one reference to "emergency shut off" in case of falling overboard. I also saw that in my state boat info, that it must be connected. I figured it was connected to the ignition key and if the key was pulled out the engine died. Wrong....I tried yesterday and the key doesn't come out when turned on. Where do or where might I find this magic button????

Re: Emergency shut off?

I'm not sure on your set-up, but most have a lanyard which is attached to a kill switch that is hooked to the ignition system. You would attach the clip end to your person(Wrist, Belt, Etc) and if you happened to fall overboard or become incapacitated, it would pull the clip from the kill switch, ground the ignition and kill the engine. Look like this and is either mounted in the remote control or in the dash...

Thanks I will look around for something that looks likt that. There does appear to be a different looking screw/button kind of thing on a corner of the dash plate but I figured it was just something else mismatched. I will check it out further.
Thanks again....

It may be disabled if the lanyard or it's clip is not attached to the button. Not uncommon for some to do this. But it should be repaired if that's the case....

Look under the ignition key and you'll find a switch. That switch must be in the up position for the engine to run. The lanyard has a plastic ring on the end that fits behind that switch. Should you pull the lanyard, the switch is pulled downward and the engine quits. Obviously the other end of the lanyard needs to be atttached to your clothing.

Re: Emergency shut off?

While messing around today trying to install the tach I looked at the place where I think the emergency shut off should be. There is a little notice to that effect under the ignition but instead of some kind of pull out thing there is just a paddle switch. I checked and yes, the wiring goes nowhere. No the paddle switch does not pull out. I don't know what is was supposed to be for.
Sigh...something else to buy...good thing she loves fishing and me...not especially in that order but maybe....ha ha ha
