Well the calender tells me it is the end of Summer. The low temperatures and dismal weather here on Cape Cod tells me that I might as well winterize the boat and I might even wake up to a dusting of snow tomorrow. Ok its not that bad yet but wow what a quick Summer.
Looking back I did have lots of fun with friends both cruising, floating around and playing on all sorts of towable water toys even the throw back vintage plywood disc that I made. It was a good season despite having never bought my salt water fishing license and never making it out on the ocean to test out the new fancy radio complete with GPS and all that I just had to have back in the Spring. It was also good despite bumping the bottom somewhere in the lake and having to buy a new prop.
The boat ran well enough without complaints for 14 years old so it was a good season.
The only real lament............ I didn't get out enough.

How about you?
Did you have a good season?
Did you have a BAD one?

It's been a really great first season with the boat. Great weather; no mechanical issues; introduced the 4 grandkids to boating ( they loved it ) and next year maybe start them tubing.
Cleaned the boat yesterday - it's going to the marina next Tuesday for winterizing and a 7 month sleep:(
Already looking forward to next May:)

Just started the "fall season" a few weeks back. It's still 95 deg. here in N. Texas. I boat in the spring and fall but not in the middle of summer when it's too stinkin' hot.

Re: End of Summer lament

I'm with you, capecodtodd, this season flew by. Due to a job change I didn't get to do everything that I wanted to do to the boat this year. I got decent subs put in, but I was really looking forward to having a little more time to fix stuff up. I was contemplating bringing it out one last time, but the temp here is so cold, I don't think I will. It's supposed to dip down to freezing tonight which means I should probably go drain the water out of the block and call the marina for winterizing. Summer isn't long enough here in MN, even though I feel like I got good use out of it (usually every weekend). No mechanical problems besides my own stupidity (wrecked a prop last weekend, not really even bad, just needs a new one now). I kind of just want to fast forward through all of the winterizing and prepping for it's icy slumber because it hurts too much. It's hard not to shed a tear when you drive away from the trailer one last time for the year in storage, watching your boat get smaller and smaller in the rear-view mirror.
On the bright side, between gas for my boat and my truck on boating days, I would imagine I was spending about $100-$150 to get it out every time I used it. In a worst case scenario, that's about $500 per month that I'll be saving while my baby is in storage.

It is that time of year. Down to 50 degrees and windy every day. The boat comes out on Tuesday. It has been a great first boating summer for the new boat though.

I have still got a good bit of time left, I don't winterize till November. But yes its been a real good season so far I have put over 120 hours on the motor, made a ton of fishing trips and have had the grand kids out once a week and the only issue was a dead CDI box. MY local parts dealer had it in stock.

I might take off the bimini now. That's how I winterize.

used the boat a lot this summer but not as much as I wanted--as usual.

Now, to finally get the boat back out. It is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to hot here to be fishing in the daytime. I can only go at night or early morning in the summer. I know you yankee boys have to play with your other toys now. Snow chains, blowers, and shovels. Enjoy, oh by the way its over 90 here today, but suppose to drop into lower 80's tomorrow. Enjoy.

It's been a good first year for our new old boat. No problems to speak of and I'm quite proud of her. Now is my favorite time of year when boat traffic drops off significantly while the weather is still great for boating and enjoying the soon to be fall scenery.

gone way too fast, I didn't have much free time to get out early this season and cut back with gas prices so high as is, shooting for a family day on the river columbas day weekend to finish the season off.

Gotalate start due to rebuild not done until after July 4th. Early end due to oil pressure issues (August 3rd). Haven't had time to look at it since. :-(
