engine acting up

I have a 2002 mercury 115 four stroke efi. It has been running great. Last week it started on first crank like always and had it warming up for about 3 minutes and it just died, there was no warnings. Tried to restart but would not start, just turned over. When I was trying to start, the first rotation was normal then it was slow. This morning it started no problem and ran great. This afternoon tried to start again and would not start. Both batteries have 12.86 volts, the plugs are new, checked the filter and no water. This has me stumped. Thanks in advanced.

Ayuh,... It takes Fuel, Fire, Compression,+ All at the right Time...

You're missing 1 of the 4.... Only you can look to see which 1....

Re: engine acting up

Welcome to Iboats.

Is the engine not starting, or is it not even cranking over? Is the cranking slow or weak?

Re: engine acting up

Sounds like maybe you might have two separate unrelated problems.

I would first clean and tighten all my battery and starter connections. Also check you battery with a load tester. If you get that straightened ou the you can start on the motor dying or not starting.
At this point refer to Bondo's reply.

The battery/starter connections are all clean and tight. The battery is reading 12.93 volts right now. It still cranks over fast the first revolution, then slow and won't start.

Re: engine acting up

I checked the ignition coill for #1 & 4 cyl and it had 24.7 ohms and cyl 2 & 3 had 24.2 ohms which is in spec. I did the spark gap test and there was no spark on any cylinder.

Could it be the ECM?

Thanks in advance.

Re: engine acting up

I've been looking through the forums and I see just about everybody saying to disconnect the blk/yellow (kill switch) from the switch box. I have actual plug type connector on the ECM and no bullet type.

Can I disconnect the kill switch by the ignition switch on the console and see if there is spark? If there is no spark, what would be the cause?
