Engine alignment mercruiser 140 alpha 1 gen 1

Just wondering how good the alignment has to be. I can one finger the alignment tool into the coupler. However my concern is that I don't have equal spline marks around the alignment tool. There is splines marks all the way around just not equal. Thoughts?

Mine are never perfect but close.
Try it at 90 degree increments as well.

Unless you have abnormally strong fingers - - you sound like you are good to go.
