I replaced my thermostat yesterday and there seemed to be quite a bit of black crap holding it in.I wanted to clean it up a bit before putting it back together. There must be other crap inside the block and manifolds.Has anyone run anything special through the engine to clean it out??????Charlie

Unless it's a closed system that could plug up a radiator, what's the point?

You have apparently never had a clogged manifold or thermostat housing. If there is a way to keep the cooling system and block a little cleaner I want to.Charlie

muriatic acid. pour a gallon in a 5 gal pail, add a couple gallons of water. suck it in and let it sit about 15 minutes. run engine on regular water. you'll be amazed at the amount of chit that comes out your exhaust. not recommended for motors with questionable elbows...

I considered muriatic acid but I thought it my be too strong to run through the system.Have you done this before????I have soaked manifolds and risers which were off the motor at the time.Charlie

i do it on average, a 1/2 dozen times a year on various raw systems, gennies, mains, etc... works wonders... make sure you warm the motor up prior..

they also make cleaners and conditioners for freshwater systems....

yeah, you can vary that mixture, depending on system capacity and how strong you wanna go..

i've actually run it straight on bad ones on occasion.. but use a diluted form and see how it does..

make sure you watch the exhaust to see all the junk come out. ;)
