Hi everyone,

1985 Searay w/ 260hp mercruiser (chevy 350)
I was finally able to get my engine block clean enough to read the engine block #. It is 10066038 or could be 10066036 (can’t really read that last number, I think it’s an 8, but is shaped like a 6 that has the top half of the 6 loop around so much that it looks like an 8)

Anyway, this is what I found on that motor:
……………………………
10066036...350...........2 or 4...Target Master/Goodwrench crate motor, 2-piece rear seal, "Hecho en Mexico"
10066038...350.....92....4...Goodwrench crate motor, 2-piece rear
seal, "Hecho en Mexico"
…………………………………………
Here is my question: Could this be the original motor in this boat? Or would this have been a replacement? I bought the boat used, so I wouldn’t know the history of it. Were the Goodwrench crate motors used in the original boats or just as replacement motors?

Re: engine block #

No, the Goodwrench crate motors were not used as OEM,
Merc, Volvo, and OMC all buy their engines directly from GM and the engine is already Marinized by GM. Then the accessories like manifolds, FWC, alternators, Ignition, wiring, PS etc. were installed by the Mainizer.
Those numbers you have are casting numbers, not serial numbers and can't tell you if it was the original or not, but there is a number stamped into the block that should help you, check the link below.

It definitely says "en Mexico" on it though.. so, it's interesting to see that this wasn't the original motor.
