What's the difference between my 76 OMC Ford 302ci block, and any other 302ci ford block? Could I take a good mustang 302 short block and replace my OMC short block with it?

Re: Engine Blocks

Brass frost plugs are #1, and keep the marine cam.

But before you start, compare the flywheel/crankshaft bolt pattern, bellhousing bolt pattern, and motor mounts. Cars are year specific, marine engines are not.

Do a search, there's lots of threads on auto/marine engine swaps.

Re: Engine Blocks

There isn't much difference in any 302 or 351w block. They all share the same motor mount location/bell housing. The post-81 (unsure on exact 80's year) 302's were outfitted with 50oz flywheel and dampener, the earlier models used a 28.2oz counterweight. Like was mentioned, brass casting plugs should be inserted into the block/heads as well. The later 302/351w's had a oil dipstick location towards the middle/back of the block, the earlier models had the dipstick in the front on the timing case, not much different, you will just have to plug the rear hole if it has one.

Well that's great news, and thanks. That will be option B If it won't free up by Tuesday when we get back from vacation. The guy I bought it from has already told me he would give me half my money back on it, so I won't complain, just press forward.
