New points, alternator, plugs and wires, coil and fuel/water separator filter to cure a no starting problem this season. Started right up after that. I adjusted the points (.022) but did not use a dwell meter or check timing. In driveway, ran like a champ and reved hard (although idle seemed a bit high to keep it from stalling - 850 rpm). Anyway, took it out on the water today and could not push very hard under power. WOT only got me maybe 3300 rpm and it was bogging long before that. Limped around for a while and played with the idle mixture need to no avail. Carb was rebuilt last year and ran OK.
Water? Timing?
Why is it that the engine can run like Vasily Alekseyev at home and Clay Aiken when on the water?
Also - there's a clinking-clanging sound coming from the back of the engine (so it seems).
