Engine bogs down, dies, at 1000 - 2500 RPM's, runs great past that "bad" spot. Does not do it when cold, Problem is intermittent when hot. Even when it does get past the "bad spot" it seems to struggle through that range, not smooth at all. Will restart every time and idle fine. Runs great 2500-5500 rpm's.

1999 Johnson 225 HP, VRO disconnected.

New gas filters, Racor and OMC in-line, good even compression, new spark plugs, new water pump, thermostats "appear" to look good and work fine. Squeezing the bulb has no effect. Gas is fresh, all fuel lines appear tight and show no sign of leakage when bulb is hard. OMC primer bulb 2 years old.

One thing I did not do is to hit the choke while she is struggling. I will try to remember next time out...

It appears that she is starving for fuel on the idle circuit but that is not verified, just a theory.

Any thoughts?

Problem Was : Timing not advancing due to linkage binding under flywheel.

The Fix: Remove flywheel, lubricate linkage under flywheel where it was binding.

I have a 1996 evinrude 225 that had the same problem you've decribed on your boat and it turned out to be a clogged fuel. If that's of any help....

Good luck...
