Well, we found a free boat that has a SBC 283, we are salvaging the boat to fund our other boat, and the 283 looks promising to get running. It has a straight inboard configuration in the boat, with the transmission mounted on the back of the engine, and the alternator, and waterpump run off a pully bolted to the flywheel. If i recall this is an old school system and not many boats use this anymore?

We have all the parts off our old engines that we pulled from our project boat to convert the engine to a standard system(with clutch plate on flywheel and SBC bell housing, pullys on back with alt and water pump)

is it worth the time to convert it to standard? or is there still a market for the old school system?

Ayuh,...

A 283 has little to No value,...

Unless by chance you happen upon somebody doing a period specific restoration...
And,.. Those are Really Slim chances...

The 283 hasn't been used since the early 60's (45 years ago) they were only 190 hp which is what a 4.3L V6 is today.
The engine would probably be more valuable to someone restoring an old Chevy car than as a marine engine.
