Engine cutting out at WOT

Stock 2000 Mercruiser 4.3 V6 carbureted.
Motor Serial# 0L642312
Drive Serial# 0L722749

I can hear the engine cutting out only when trimmed out at WOT which I don't do very often. I replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor last summer and thought I had the problem fixed but apparently not. I have replaced the water separating filter a few times including this year. I did not dump the contents of the filter to check for water which I will be sure to do in the future. Does this sound like fuel or electrical to you guys? Is there a rev limiter on this engine? My tach has never read correctly so I'm not exactly sure what my WOT rmp is. Thanks.

First, what do the plugs say? Their color and condition will tell you quite a bit. You may have a bit of trash in your carb jets... I'll bet you are going lean up there.

Ya really need a tach to know what yer motor is doin',...

The Prop should hold the motor to 4800 rpms, trimmed at Wot,.....

Not only is the Contents of discarded fuel filters a Tool,.... so is the Tach,.... an Accurate tach,...

What rpm are you showing 44-4800?
Pull the cap off and see if you see some tracking (build up)
