I have a 2005 Tahoe 234. It has a Merc. 5.7L with Alpha One outdrive. While on the lake yesterday everything was running good until it was time to leave. When I started across the water, the engine started cutting out. 1/4 throttle 1/2 throttle, WOT, it didnt matter. It would not shut off but the boat would just come to a stop. If I put it in neutral, I could rev it up fine, but as soon as I put it back in gear and started to plane, the RPM's and MPH just dropped off as if I let off of the throttle. To get back to the dock, I had to put it in gear and bump the throttle like i was in a no wake zone. Any suggestions?!?!

Sounds a lot like water in the fuel to me also.

Re: Engine cutting out under load

The engine was tuned up over the winter. It has new plugs, wires, and the fuel filter is new. I also had to replace the starter about 2 weeks ago. My problem happened the third time being on the water this year. If it is water in the fuel, would the engine not run rough at idle? or when I put it in neutral, would it not skip or hesitate when reved?
