Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous post about my 1973 Evinrude 6hp model 6302s motor dying out after intial start up. After reviewing everyone's reply I checked the fuel system and found the cork gasket between the fuel screen and the fuel pump assembly in pretty bad shape, in fact it is the original one. I can keep the engine running if I continue to squeeze the ball pump and choking it on and off, also I can see fuel leaking from where the gasket is when I prime it. The problem is I can't find a gasket anywhere online. Should I try to make one using the original as a template or maybe just buy a new pump...that is if I can find one. Besides that I could not find anything else that might contribute to my problem. The motor is in excellent shape and I doubt there is more than 600 hours on the motor all fresh water use.
