Engine Flush Hookup used for Running Motor?

Hi All,

A quick question here. I have a fresh-water flush hookup on the transom. It is connected to the block drains with hoses - obviously used for flushing the motor.

My question is this - can I use this to induce water for cooling purposes when running the engine, as opposed to using muffs? I suppose the water would just exit through the outdrive. It seems to make sense, however, something tells me no...would it harm the impeller in the raw water pump?

NO! the water would be coming into the engine after the water pump in the outdrive. It would keep the engine cool, but it wouldn't allow water to the pump and would destroy your raw water pump impeller and housing.
Stick with the muffs for running, the flush system is for when the engine is not running.

Drain the block anyway you can.DON"T use it to winterize the motor unless you have completly drained the system. And like Don said you will cook the impeller if you run it without water.
The best way is unhook all hoses and drains then pour anti-freeze in by hand.
That way you won't be buying a new block in the spring.Jerry
