Engine has no hose to the 'pee hole', no pun intended!

When I was messing with my engine today, and previously when I've had the cover off...I noticed that there is no hose running to the 'pee hole'...meaning that I can't tell if it is 'peeing'.

I have a johnson Model#65ESL-72S,and it has other problems...but I'm working on those.

The previous owner had a 70hp johnson before this one, and he blew it up.
He got ahold of this 65hp, and put all of the internal parts into the case/shell of the 70hp, and said that there was no hose or outlet to connect to the water indicator (pee hole). So, on this model# Johnson, where does the water exit?

He does have a receipt for a new pump, and it is installed...

The engine doesn't overheat, and the engine temp gauge didn't see over 110* yesterday...so this question is basically out of curiousity.

Thanks!
Shawn

Also, when running with muffs on, and in the water, there is no water spraying from anywhere near the top half of the engine...

So, does this model, Model#65ESL-72S, just not have a 'pee' function, or did he just forget to put the hose in?

Where does the hose run from? Somewhere in the lower unit?

Thanks!
Shawn

Shawn, those old motors didn't have a pee hose. All your cooling water will be coming out the prop.

I have a 1979 140hp Evinrude and I have 2 ports on the back of my engine that look like they are big "pee holes". I'm new to Boating and just bought my boat(first). I do know on newer motors have water spraying out of a "pee hole" and I do Have water flowing out these ports not at a very high pressure. The ports are about a half inch in dia. Am I missing a pee hole or is this engine supposed to be like this. Do I need much pressure out of these holes

joskandkirsty

its normal where your 1/2 inch holes are your motor wont shoot much water on muffs but in water you will see water coming out..when not sure pop engine cover off and put you finger on head you should be able to hold it there for a few seconds
my 135 is like that

Wouldn't it be possible to drill and tap a hose fitting to your own custom overboard water indicator? My '75 Johnson 15hp doens't have an indicator, and sometimes I wish it did.

If I'm not mistaken the indicator is connected to one of the waterjackets. I forgett the actual flow of water throughout the engine, but this indicator would be tapped into the first waterjacket. I guess you would have to have a very small hole for the water to come out, or else you will lower the internal water pressure too much.

I think I may try it. Heck, I may be able to get the all the parts (hoses and fittings) from an newer Johnson, seeing how they haven't really changed internally.
