Hello,
I have a 1996 Glastron fish & ski that I've been working to improve since I bought it about a year ago. It's a decent boat with a solid Mercruiser (4.3 I/O) but I've never the less found several things to tinker with. The hatch cover for the motor was supported underneath by some 2x4 bracing that while adequate, made any maintenance work on the motor a real pain. The plan was to make all the covers (3) easily removable and to replace all the 2x4 bracing with a set-up that would make maintenance easier. That part is done but now I would like to install some hinges on the center cover so it can be easily opened and supported for inspection and start up.The pictures below show some details. I was thinking about moving the 2x4 cross piece as far back as possible and attach it to the fiberglass as I've done with the 2x6 supports. But I'm concerned that may not offer enough support for the seat? The new 2x6 supports are braced by some 1/8" steel brackets I made that you can't see behind the fiberglass For now I'm just going with the cross support as seen in the pic's..When/if I re-carpet I may revisit that set-up. So, about the hinge, I'd much prefer a concealed hinge and something that doesn't require a chain to support it. What are you folks using? Pic's or websites where you've seen good stuff is always appreciated.
Thanks,
Jcris
