Re: Engine Help Please?

Post up some pics of the boat/engine so we can see what we're working with.

It also might help to know how far along the re-assembly has gone...hence the pix.:)

All torque and engine specs are GM and you can get them from any (GM V8) auto/truck manual you can get your hands on.

Ayuh,... A picture would be Great, as the 898 drive was used with 305 motors...
The same drive behind a 350 was called the 260...

from what i gather the alternator mounts underneath the power steering pump on the right side of the motor if your looking at the water pump. the dont kno pic im guessing that would mount somewhere left of the water pump. the filter i have no clue. and how would i go about ordering belts? both manuals i downloaded didnt offer anything in a part number or maybe i just didnt see it. so in the mean time ill go back and read again. again thanks for any help you can provide!

Re: Engine Help Please?

Here's a link to a site with pictures and part numbers (one of many); http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectModels3.asp?type_id=8

You need to make sure you have the right engine/drive combo to look up...305/350 etc........seems like that drive was on a 305 ???

Hope this helps.

Once you find out what you need, try here first at iboats, eh.

If the PO use of silicone is any indication, he didn't know what he was doing.

It's ugly. I'd re-evaluate the whole engines suitability for repower.

the block was looked over by a gm mechanic and i was given a thumbs up or i would have never brought this home! but i find it hard to believe with so many members on here no one has a pic or something i can use. the manuals were of some help but a complete picture would be great!

Re: Engine Help Please?

The thing is, over the years, Merc has mounted all the fan belt accessories in all different places on the front of the engine. About the only constant has been the bravo style raw water pump location.

sooooo....there is no right or wrong, only the brackets will tell...and pulley alignment
