engine hood

A very dumb question How do I get the hood off of a 1965 Johnson 60 hp. OLD engine on boat I purchased want to get it running but has set for 6 years want to lube cyl.s before trying but can not get hood off.

There is a lever on the front of the hood.----Release it.----Lift slightly at the front.----Move hood to the back about 1" and lift hood clear straight up.

Looks as if somebody has strapped the cover in place using a crimp band on some metal strapping. Interesting.

See post # 2 and find the vertical knob / lever on the front of the cowling !!!------And that is the way they were made in 66.----There is a trim piece missing on the back that hides 1960's technology.

Top half of hood is busted loose from bottom section. Makes one wonder what happened.
