Engine hours

In a cruiser style of boat, how many hours do y'all think a gas engine (V8 Merc) should last if it gets proper maintenance. <br />Most often a 1800 - 2000 rpm slow cruise.<br />Occasional 3500 rpm fast cruise.<br />WOT for tuning only.<br />There's lots of variables I know but this is just a hypothetical question.

The eng could last several thousand hours with a little luck and proper care. Probably the main concern is all the accessories, peripherals that break and wear out and could causing engine failure. Just monitor all of the problems on this forum and notice why most problem occure.
