I am looking at a 2004 Chaparral Sunesta 236. It is about 5 hours away & before I make the drive I want to confirm the size of engine it has in it & was looking for some help. The seller says it has a Merc 5.0L MPI with Bravo 3 & that it is 300hp. The research I did, says the 5.0 was a 260hp engine, so I questioned him on it. He said the title says 300 hp, but couldn't give me any other information. It does have the Bravo 3 dual-prop, which seems consistant with the 300hp engine, so I am at a lost. Is there any other ways to absolutely CONFIRM the hp?

Look up the engine serial # on Mercruiser website to confirm. The 5.0L MPI was never more than 260HP.
Also, that is a heavy boat, so 260HP will be "just adequate". A 300HP 350Mag would be better.

The 5.7l Mag (normally called a 350 mag) is 300hp so maybe he doesn't know what engine is in it. Have him send a pic of the engine. There should be 3 serial numbers on top. Don't go by the drive. I have a Bravo 1 but only a 250hp 5.7l EFI.
